During the first weekend in November, OJAA officers Christina Egner, Logan Deitrick, Bailey Harsh, Bethaney Enos and Krystin Bachman attended the National Junior Angus Association's Raising the Bar Conference at the CAB office in Wooster. The group was accompanied by advisors Bob Deitrick and Jamie King. The workshop was put on by members of the NJAA Board of Directors and officers from five different states attended the conference. Workshops throughout the weekend focused on learning more about the AAA, membership, parli pro, public speaking, fundraising and budgets, and scholarships and awards. A highlight of the weekend was when the group traveled to a nearby ropes course to learn more about team building through different activities and climbing a 40 foot structure. The group had a great time throughout the weekend making new friends and learning how to strengthen the OJAA. A special thanks to Chip and Tracie Enos for sponsoring the registration fees for the conference. To learn more about the conference, please contact any of the OJAA officers that attended.

BIG E Announces FFA Eastern Region Stars in:
Agribusiness, Agriscience, Farmer, and Agricultural Placement
|
September 14 and 15th brought 28 FFA members from the FFA Eastern Region to Springfield for the BIG E to compete in the FFA Star program. These star awards recognize students who have developed
outstanding agricultural skill and competency through their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program, demonstrated outstanding management skills, and met other agricultural education, scholarship and leadership requirements. Each star received a check from the Farm Credit Bank Associations, who sponsored this event. A panel of judges interviewed the finalists from the Eastern FFA Region to select the over all star in each of four areas. A ceremony was held on the Exposition fairgrounds on September 15th where Jennifer Himburg,
Southern Region FFA Vice President, was the MC. The awards were presented by the President of the Eastern States Exposition, Mr. Wayne McCary, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the BIG E Mr. Don Chase, and representing the Farm Credit Bank Associations who are sponsoring the 2007 Stars program, Mr. James
Putnam, Vice President, First Pioneer Farm Credit of Enfield.
The 2007 Eastern States Exposition Star Farmer started developing her beef cow herd when she was given her older brothers’ first heifer after he passed away in 1994. Starting at a young age she helped fill feed buckets and open gates for her parents. As she got older her parents helped her get involved in 4-H which gave her the confidence to move on to a higher level of showing. Now she is actively involved in all the activities on the farm and owns and operates her own registered Angus herd. This year’s winner is from Shelby, Ohio and a member of the Shelby FFA Chapter, Christina Egner. |
