The Ohio Angus Association held a field day September 21, 2008 at the Mansfield Correctional Institute Farm.
Farm Manager and host Tom Cowell, along with his gracioius staff went out of their way to ensure a fun, educational,
entertaining, informative, and relaxing day for family and friends in the cattle business. With approximately 180 people
in attendance, there were plenty of bids in the Ohio Jr. Angus Assocation benefit auction, in which many different items,
constructed by inmates and staff at the facility, were auctioned off to support the 2009 Eastern Regional Show being
hosted by the Ohio Jr’s. From round bale feeder, to stall sign holders, to cornhole boards and handcrafted pictures and
even a rocking bull, the auction items were of fine quality and verymuch appreciated by the Jr’s.
We were fortunate to have new American Angus Association CEO Bryce Schumann on hand for news and updates, and also heard presentations from Brian House - Select Sires, Fernando Silveira - OSU Vet, and Jerry Stocka - Pfizer Animal Health. Highland Enterprises was on hand with a cattle equipment display, and Andy Vance, ABN, was on hand covering the events for BARN radio. Wagon tours of the farm were conducted throughout the day, and we concluded the day with a special tour of the old Ohio State Reformatory. Many thanks to all who helped make the day possible, especially Tom Cowell, and OAA committee chairman Joe Sanders.
